9/45 attend the Grand Finale of the Northern Ireland Book Awards

9/45 along with Miss Donnelly and Mrs McArdle attended the Grand Finale of the NIBA which was held in the Lyric Theatre Belfast on Thursday 10th April.  The winning book was Russian Roulette by popular author Anthony Horowitz.  Second place went to Osbert the Avenger by Christopher William Hill.

The fun began with a literature based quiz with representatives from each school taking part.  After a closely fought competition the winning team which included our representative Cormac Campbell each received an Easter egg.

The guest speaker was the hilarious Christopher William Hill, author of Osbert the Avenger.  Christopher had everyone in stitches during his talk as he described how he created new characters for his stories.  Christopher often writes about people he meets in his daily life, so he interviewed some of the audience to find out what made them interesting.  He tried his best to get them to reveal their dark side but none of the lovely kids present had any dark secrets to share.

The morning finished with a display of book trailers prepared by some of the schools taking part and the distribution of souvenir chocolate bars for everyone.

Since the launch of this year’s Awards in October, 9/45 have read the 8 short listed books, attended a drama work shop hosted by Drama Facilitator Stephen Beggs , reviewed the books on-line and voted for their favourites.  Unfortunately, our first choice Sky Hawk didn’t win, but 945 agreed that Russian Roulette was a worthy winner!
