2014 Drama Workshop in Holy Trinity College, Cookstown

945 are currently taking part in the Northern Ireland Book Awards reading 8 fantastic books chosen by local school librarians and students.

On Wednesday 26th February Mrs McArdle, our school librarian took Fionntan Donnelly, Lauren Duffy, Emma Mallon and John-Jo Nugent to an action packed drama workshop in Holy Trinity College, where they spent the morning working with Belfast actor and director Stephen Beggs, from the Bruiser Theatre Company. The students had a great time working with our hosts Holy Trinity College, Cookstown and the Sacred Heart from Omagh.

We talked about four books that have been nominated for the

NI Book Awards:

In a Glass Grimley by Adam Gidwitz

Osbert the Avenger by Christopher William Hill

Russian Roulette by Anthony Horowitz

Sky Hawk by Gill Lewis

As always the workshop was very enjoyable and very well organised.  All the students had a wonderful experience.

Me and my class mates went with Mrs McArdle to Holy Trinity College in Cookstown today for a Drama Workshop.  I really enjoyed it and so did my class mates.  We took part in games and acting.  It was very good fun and was organised by Holy Trinity Librarian Mrs McAdoo.  The other school involved was The Sacred Heart from Omagh.

Stephen Beggs was our host and he was really nice and enthusiastic.  He made us do a warm up like you do for football or any other sport.  It was a brilliant day.  I was in the group acting a scene from Osbert the Avenger by Christopher William Hill.

First of all Stephen got us on our feet to do a warm up.  We did loads of enthusiastic warm up acting exercises moving all around the library.  Stephan is a theatre director and is absolutely brilliant. He then got us to sit down and he talked about he four books we were going to act out later.  This really inspired me to read the other books.  We were then asked to act out a leading theme in the book we had chosen.  Stephen picked me to lead the group doing Sky Hawk. I really enjoyed this and loved working in a group with the other students. Stephen is a excellent and brilliant speaker!

Today the four of us went to Holy Trinity College in Cookstown for an acting workshop with Stephen Beggs.  We first started off doing warms ups like, stretching our legs, listening and doing acting exercises.  We had loads of fun while doing these warm ups because they were fun and everyone was involved.  The other school taking part was The Sacred Heart from Omagh.  Mrs McAdoo the Librarian in Holy Trinity organised the event. Stephen then took us to the other side of the library and we sat down while he talked about his favourite four books in the Northern Ireland Book Awards.  We were all split up into different groups and the group leaders told us what scene we would act out.  I was in the Russian Roulette group.  We had to show all the other groups our scene which was really fun.  I think it was a really great day out.
